These are more intensive courses and you will as ever be under the guidance of a BORDA specialist trainer using our site near to Edinburgh at Winton Castle in East Lothian. We start with an in-depth explanation of the workings of a 4x4, what the oily bits do and why! Then we focus on helping you to learn the skills you need to tackle more testing terrain.

Reading the landscape and conditions, emergency stop, tackling steep downhills and uphills, reverse ascents, side slopes and ruts – these areas and more will be covered as we build your confidence and understanding of safe vehicle handling. We’ll take into account your previous experience and adapt the course to your benefit. If you drive a 4x4 off-road in Scotland or Northumberland as part of your usual working day the benefits of this course could be far-reaching.
 

BORDA Professional Off Road Driving Certificated Courses

The course is a half day course for two candidates and is designed to give a basic safety awareness of the potential risks involved when using a 4x4 for driving off road. The vehicles are only expected to be used in mild ground conditions with gentle slopes. Syllabus to include Introduction: covering Operator Safety and Environment, vehicle controls, specialist controls, transmission and braking, vehicle checks. Driving: starting and moving off, stopping and emergency stop, gentle ascents and descents, observation and risk assessment. Debriefing and assessment results. Finish	Our most popular course which gives a comprehensive safety awareness of the potential risks when using a 4x4 for driving off road with the trainee expected to be using potentially slippery ground with moderate slopes. This is a full days course for two candidates and is what we would recommend for the most occupational 4x4 drivers Syllabus to include Introduction: covering Operator Safety and Environment, vehicle controls, specialist controls, transmission and braking, vehicle checks. Driving: starting and moving off, stopping and emergency stop, gentle ascents and descents, observation and risk assessment. Driving Ascents: risk assessment of ascents, stall recovery, loss of traction recovery. Driving Descents: risk assessment of descents, traction control, braking, loss of control. Driving: ditches and ridges, ruts and mud, sideslopes, returning to the road. Debriefing and assessment results.	This is a two day course for up to three candidates who will be using their vehicles in more challenging conditions. Syllabus to include Introduction: covering Operator Safety and Environment, vehicle controls, specialist controls, transmission and braking, vehicle checks. Driving: starting and moving off, stopping and emergency stop, gentle ascents and descents, observation and risk assessment.
